2008 COMPETITION THEMES

January

Architectural Elements

An element or part of a larger man made structure

February

Ultra Macro/Abstracts

Extreme close-ups which are highlighted by shapes and colors rather than by recognizable objects; might be best defined as “What is it?”.

March

Walls

The main focus must be of a “wall".  Ranging from a landscape such as Hadrian’s Wall; to a view of the texture/feature of a wall; to a graffiti covered wall.

April

Water

Prominent focus must be the water

May

Toys

Main focus is of children’s' toys, models or board games.  Ride-able motorized vehicles, bicycles, scooters etc don't qualify.

June

Patterns

Prominent focus’ is of repetitive elements

July

Diners

Interior or Exterior but obvious that it is of a diner

August

Macro Flowers

Close-ups of flower(s) or parts of flowers

September

Insects

Focus is of insects or insect life.  Insect like creatures and their nests (i.e., Caterpillars, Millipedes, Spiders, Daddy-Long-Legs, Wasp Nests, etc.) qualify.

October

Wild Birds

Prominent focus uses one or more wild birds as its theme.  Wild birds in captivity do not qualify.

November

No Hand of Man

A nature photograph that shows nothing man-made or shows no evidence of mankind.

December

Fall Season Colors

Colorful Elements or Activities of the Fall season

2007 COMPETITION THEMES

Definition

January Reflections Reflected images; be creative, you can see reflections in many things other than water.
February By the Light of the Candle Anything illuminated by the light of one or more candle(s). Image can include the flame or not. Romance, seasons, holidays, still life. Real candles only, no artificial candles.
March Shadows The focus is on the shadow created by any subject.
April Comedy Make us laugh; remember the WOW! Factor.
May Manipulated Manipulated in the camera (double exposure, zooming with slow shutter speed etc) or afterwards, with editing programs like Photoshop & Elements. Creativity is the key to this theme. Use your imagination.
June Domestic Animals With Personality Domestic animals with personality; includes pet animals found in the home, farm animals or those pets that you see in the local park. Zoo animals and wildlife are NOT included in this theme.
July Transportation Boats & trains & aero planes etc etc. . . .any mode of transportation, other than feet. Structures and/or buildings are not the focus of the theme.
August Down by the Waters edge Nautical, Maritime theme including boating on fresh water lakes & ponds. By the coast, a lighthouse, seascapes, lake-scapes, ships or boats, ropes, locks, etc., etc. - all things nautical or the elements of these things.
September Urban Nightscapes Urban (city or town) landscape lit by natural or artificial light at night.
October Stop Action Freezing an object in motion; taking a sharp picture of an object that is in motion
November Cemeteries Focusing on headstones and monuments honoring our dead, military or civilian, landscape or not, close-ups or not.
December Places of Worship Religious structures and items; internal or external; pieces, whole thing, contents, main element can be landscape or not, people are not the focus of the theme.
 
 

2006 COMPETITION THEMES

Any photograph that meets the "good taste" Club standard.

March

Wild Birds

Main theme of photograph uses one or more wild birds as its theme.

April

Bridges

Uses one or more bridges, or a substantial part of a bridge, as its theme.  

May

Sport Action

Key word is ACTION. Theme of this competition is catching sports in action.

June

Flower

Macro photography theme is close ups of flowers.

July

Fireworks

Night photography of fireworks in action.

August

Insects

Macro photography theme is close ups of Insects.

September

Barns

Landscape theme which includes a main element of one or more barns or outbuildings.

October

Moving Water

Key work is MOTION. Theme is the capture of moving water.

November

Halloween Portraits

Portraits of the ghosts, ghouls and goblins (any Halloween costumes).

December

Holiday Themes

Any image with any holiday theme but not your vacation shots.
