Eastern State Penitentiary Trip
Sunday May 4th
http://www.easternstate.org/
Ticket prices for general admission are $12 for
adults and $8 for students and senior citizens.
There is also a coupon available on the website
for $1 off general admission; which we will have
available for all who plan on going. If we get
15 or more people to go with us, we get more
access around the prison. The amount of people
going on the trip will determine how we run the
carpooling and which tour we choose. The prison
is located about 5 blocks away from the Museum
of Modern Art in Philadelphia, PA and the hours
of operation are 10:00am to 5:00pm. Directions
are available on the website and will be passed
out for the people in the carpool.
If you have not been there before, here are a
few things to remember:
Be sure to dress comfortably (sneakers and
jeans), you will get dirty. You can bring a
tripod and flashlight – there isn’t always light
where you want to shoot and leaving the shutter
open while waving around a flashlight can create
some neat effects! However, there is a fee of
$10 to bring a tripod into the prison. Pack some
water bottles and a snack bar, as there is no
food inside the penitentiary. Don’t forget to
wear sun protection as well – hats and
sunscreen.
If you would like, bring a few
dollars along to go out to eat with when we are
all done. Jack’s Firehouse is across the street
from the prison and they have good food.
The
prison is an old, abandoned building that is
falling apart as they try to fix it. There will
be areas that we are not allowed to go due to
safety concerns and construction areas. When
signing up to go, please be sure to give us your
updated cell phone number so that we can keep in
contact with you while on the trip.
