The Cranbury digital Camera Club Newsletter - September 2006 - second update

We would like to thank the American Repertory Ballet at Princeton Ballet School (Cranbury location) for making us so welcome as we held our first meeting there at the beginning of the month.

This week’s meeting was our monthly competition and the theme this week was “Barns, a landscape theme which includes a main element of one or more barns or outbuildings.

Our judge was Ben Venezio NJFC, He is the Former President of the Camera Naturalist CC and Former President of the Cranford / Millburn CC. He was awarded a Citation from NJFCC in the year 2000 for his work over the past (30) years promoting Photography. We enjoyed hearing his critiques of our work. Congratulations to our ribbon winners. Please remember to email Tony a small, web sized jpeg version of your award winning images to put on our web site gallery; tony@cranburydigitalcameraclub.org

(Suggestion: When we size our images for Digital Image Competitions the size is 1024 pixels on the longest side at 300 dpi resolution. Practice using this formula when sending images to Tony)

At this meeting we had sign up sheets for the two trips we have planned for October. Both trips are limited to 20 people and were first come first served. There are just a few places left for each trip, email Janet or Greg if you are still interested in signing up for either. Please note that these trips are limited in numbers therefore only members are invited to attend.

  1. Macy’s Advertising Photography Studio, Brooklyn, New York,

    with Larry Zink.
    Saturday, October 14th 8am to approx 4pm
We will be hiring a bus to transport us from the parking lot outside the ballet school to Brooklyn as it is not an easy commute. (We could possibly add a pick up point further north of here if required by our members from the north!)
Larry will give us a tour of the studio, set up some cameras for us to practice with and then process our results. We will arrange lunch. You do not need to bring your camera for this part of the trip. If time allows we may stop to get some images in New York and you may want your camera for this.
Cost: The cost will be the cost of the bus divided by the number of participants plus lunch. As yet we do not have a definite price, I will post it as soon as possible. Budget about $50. A $20 deposit is required.

  2. The “Friends of the Hamilton/Trenton Marsh Competition” Photo Trip

    Saturday October 21st
Meet in the parking lot outside the ballet school at 8:30am. The group will car pool and then drive to the marsh for a guided tour from 9:30 – 12:30. This is a walking tour, about a three mile loop on flat terrain, good walking shoes or boots are advised. Some time will be spent taking photos during the walk. After the tour participants are free to take more photos and return home at their leisure. This tour has been organized for us by volunteers and we are subject to their timing. This is not necessarily the best time of day for these photos but maybe used as an opportunity to plan where you would like to go at another time. It is said that the best photographers do not take their cameras the first time they visit an area, but spend hours looking and planning. This may be an idea if you do not want to carry a lot of equipment with you. Rain advisory will be posted early on Saturday morning on the CdCC website.
    Cost: Free

Wednesday October 11th

Our first meeting in October will be a chance for you all to bring in an image and tell us all about it….remember “Show & Tell” at school? Bring your prize winning image, favorite image, the one you need help with, the one everyone else loves. There are a lot of prize winning photos that members would love to hear about. Tell us how, why, where, when and what the image is all about. We will use the light box so prefer you bring them matted and or mounted as for competition. However, this is NOT a competition. So if your picture is framed and hanging on your wall or otherwise not able to be presented as we require for our competitions, this is okay this time. You will be given a number as you sign in and we will show in that order. Remember, this is not a competition or a critique.

The audience will be able to ask questions so if you have no idea what to say, just ask for questions.

Only ONE image each please. We will limit each talk to 5 minutes and use a timer to keep us on track!

We really want everyone to participate in this meeting. Please bring an image. Even if you have never shown before. Visitors are invited to bring an image too.

We look forward to seeing you!
